Netflix: Survival of the Thickest

While freelancing with Chicago-based Sarofsky in February 2023, I was brought on board to help design and animate the main title for the Netflix/A24 show Survival of the Thickest created by and starring Michelle Buteau.

While developing the concept, I leaned on imagery of NYC transportation to connect with the theme of transitions in life to reflect what the main character was experiencing herself. Implementing a sliding, posterized, and displaced animation treatment gave way to the upbeat and vibrant art direction we were trying to dial in to quickly bring the viewer into the series.

Red Giant's suite of tools and native effects Turbulent Displace, Noise, and more were instrumental in art directing the final look for this main title. I was also able to toolkit the credit animations through expression rigs of source text and text animator randomness while giving us room to keep the text editable and scalable for any amount of credits that needed to be added.
